What is the HPV vaccine?

WHO SHOULD GET THE HPV VACCINE?

Children and adults
from ages 9 to 26 years

Children aged 9 years can start getting the HPV vaccine, but vaccination is routinely recommended at ages 11 or 12.²³

Adults aged
27 through 45 years

People who were not adequately vaccinated before can discuss the option of getting vaccinated with a healthcare professional.²³

Getting the HPV vaccine25

HPV vaccine is usually injected into the muscle of the upper arm or at the side of the upper area of the thigh. The recommended site of administration is the upper arm. The vaccine should not be injected within the vein, into the skin layers or right under the skin.
